"I bear witness to the profound isolation, both physical and psychological, experienced by individuals residing within these bustling metropolises.  In my artistic endeavors, I diligently document the pervasive sense of alienation that often remains overlooked amidst the relentless pace of contemporary life."

Han Xinyu was born in 1998. After Receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2020, she is currently continuing her practice at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. While her visual language is commonly associated with contemporary artists such as Luc Tuymans, Gerhard Ritcher and Peter Doig, she prevails a tendency toward the emotional narrative aroused by socially constructed material reality.

Alienation is the central subject in Han’s practice, to her, it is the impact of modern city life upon the human psyche. Wondering and cruising around the city, Han keeps her distance from the crowd she observes to avoid the shock-induced anaesthesia brought by the overwhelming sensory bombardment of life. Her paintings display the discourses of modernity and mass consumption. The wealth of sights and eyes with mobility capture the culture of display, offering a window into leisure, idler, and glamour, at the same time isolation from the crowd.

Han Xinyu’s solo exhibitions include: Dancing On the Line, Gene gallery, Shanghai, 2023; Spring 2022, NICHES, Chongqing, 2022; Home Alone, Hè Gallery, Shanghai, 2021. Her works have been featured in exhibitions at 2022 Asian Students Young Artists Art Festival, Gallery LVS, Seoul; Present Progressive, Blackstone Apartments, Shanghai; 2020 The First Jinan International Biennale, Jinan; and UNTITLED, ART Miami Beach, Online Viewing Room.
